Dave Brown with a camcorder during training. Gordon Iiams, Friend

1) Juggling - Dave was a gymnast in high school & college (William & Mary). He joined a traveling circus as a clown, acrobat and Juggler during Summer breaks. While at EVMS, Dave would participate in the annual talent show with a juggling act.

2)Waiter - While at William & Mary, Dave worked as a waiter at a Colonial tavern called Seward's Ordinary. He would dress up in colonial clothes and juggle for table-side entertainment for the customers during lulls in his wait-staff duties. While at EVMS, the tavern would call him if there were manning shortfalls. He would also be a special guest waiter for special occasions. An example was for visiting parents. When my parents came to visit EVMS, we would go to the tavern for dinner and Dave would volunteer to be our juggling waiter. He did this for other friend's families, too.

3)Flying - Dave had a friend who owned an airplane (a small single engine 4 seater). The plane was at the Williamsburg airport. Dave would keep up his pilot license hours by borrowing that plane. He would invite his friends for rides, including Brenda, Kathy Mac, Irene, and me. That was the plane he flew to Alaska the year between college and med school.

4) Physician mentor in Deltaville - Our first year of med school, we were all assigned to a Primary Care Physician for a Preceptorship. Dave went to Deltaville, about 60 miles away on the Rappahannock River. He was interested in Family Practice at the time and his rotation with convinced him that Family Practice was definitely his ultimate goal. Dave stayed in touch with his mentor long after medical school and would take time to drive up to Deltaville to visit whenever he came back to Norfolk, even after his mentor retired from practice.

5)William & Mary Gym Team - on some weekends, Dave would go up to William & Mary to work out with his old college team. He would also participate in kids' / youth programs put on by the gym team.
